Peachtree City CERT 2011 Timeline
The Peachtree City CERT program's success is evident in the activities and events where its members participated.
- In January, the Fayette County Amateur Radio Club hosted a full-day Amateur Radio entry license class for 16 CERT members.
- In February, 35 CERT members attended Weather Spotter training sponsored by the National Weather Service office in Peachtree City. Five Teen CERT members attended a full-day "Train-the-Teen-Trainer" (T4) class and became Instructors supporting the Teen program.
- In May, the police department sponsored a 10-week Adult CERT class. The CERT program graduated its 12th Adult class in August 2011.
- In July, CERT entered a 9/11 themed float in the Peachtree City July 4th Parade, winning the Grand Marshall trophy. The program has won honors in five out of the six years it has participated in this event.
- In August, CERT sponsored a trailer display and informational booth during the National Night Out event at Target.
- In October, Captain Pye taught the CERT Instructor (Train-the-Trainer) course in Peachtree City, completed by 41 students from across the state. Two PTC program members attended Train-the-Trainer class in 2010 and became Instructors supporting the program. CERT participated in the Bennett's Mill Safety Day doing fire extinguisher demonstrations. For the J.C. Booth Safety Day, team members did "moulage" (special effects makeup) for victims of a simulated active shooter attack and facilitated a presentation on emergency preparedness activities.
- In December, CERT participated and supported the police department's Light Up the Night Toy Drive events.
- CERT supported CPR/AED training of 26 individuals (CERT members and Auxiliary Police officers) in 2011.
